Welcome to HRHS Track 2014!

Our team has seen a lot of growth this year, and we just got our email lists updated so many of you are seeing communications from HRHS Track for the first time. Whether you've been with us for a while or you're just getting to know us, we're glad you're here!

Please mark your calendar and plan to attend our Required Parent Meeting on Monday, March 3 @ 6:45 pm in the HRHS library. You'll learn what coaches expect from athletes, what you can expect from our program, and how you can be part of making 2014 a great season for our athletes. See you there!

If you're new to HRHS Track, our website and emails are your best sources of information. Expect to get 2 or 3 emails a week during the season with updates on team dinners, meet schedules, locations, results and photos and other important news. (Really....if you haven't been to our website, go see our calendar or meet our coaches or check our team records.)

Required Parent Meeting: March 3

The 2014 Track Season at Highlands Ranch High School officially starts this week!

Join us next week for our required parent meeting on Monday, March 3 @ 6:45 in the HRHS Library. At this meeting parents will:
  • Meet our coaches
  • Learn our expectations and goals for the season
  • Get our schedule of events and meets
  • Get an introduction to our Varsity trip to compete in Texas over Spring Break (and learn how you can start earning funds for this year's trip or a trip in the future)
  • Find out how you can get involved
This meeting sets the tone for our season, and it's very important that each athlete have at least one parent or guardian attend. We're looking forward to seeing you there!

It's not too late to register, but athletes need to get their registrations and physicals completed ASAP. Click here for online registration.

The Science of Running Faster

What are we working on at Track Camp? What fundamentals do we practice every day during the track season? The techniques that make running faster and more efficient.

Our kids hear a lot about what their arms are doing, what their knees are doing and where their heels are. "Drive down" is a phrase they hear every day.

It's not as quick and easy as this video makes it look, but here's how, with time and repetition, all that attention to detail makes a difference...for performance in track and any other sport that involves running. (If the video doesn't appear below, click here.)

The registration deadline for spring sports at HRHS is only a few days away on Monday, February 24. Athletes must have registrations and athletic physicals on file by this date to participate in practice. If you haven't already registered and turned in your physical, don't delay!

As a junior, she placed 5th in the 800 meter run. She has also competed at State in the 400 meter dash, 4x400 meter relay, and the sprint medley relay. She is a 2nd-year defending Continental League champion in the 800 meter run. Macy's senior season for HRHS starts this month, and she will be signing her National Letter of Intent with Colorado State University. Congratulations, Macy!

Connor Turnage

Connor has been part of the HRHS Track team since his freshman year and has earned 4 state medals. As a freshman, he qualified for the state meet in triple jump, and as a sophomore he took his first state championship in that event. As a junior, he repeated as the 5A State Champion in the triple jump, placed 2nd at State the long jump, and ran a leg on the 4x100 meter relay team that won a 7th place medal at the State Meet. He was named Colorado's Gatorade Athlete of the Year for Track and Field in 2013. Connor's senior season for HRHS starts this month, and he will be signing his National Letter of Intent with University of Nebraska. An interview with Colorado Track XC related to his college commitment is posted here.  Congratulations, Connor!

We also congratulate CC Morgan, who has already signed her NLI to play Division I Basketball with Denver University. CC began competing with HRHS Track as a freshman.
