In the Books: HRHS Memorial 2014

A thousand thanks to all the coaches, volunteers, and athletes who made our 4th Annual Highlands Ranch Memorial Meet a great success this weekend.

  • We had some of the best weather of the season
  • We ran well ahead of schedule
  • We left the stadium spotlessly clean
  • We raised awareness and funds for the Second Wind Fund in memory of Arapahoe High School Student Claire Davis

And we couldn't have made it all happen without everyone's help! Go Falcons!  We appreciate everyone's efforts and send special shout outs to these folks (and beg forgiveness for any we miss!):

  • All the parent volunteers who helped in countless ways and kept asking how else they could help throughout the day. We can't name them all, but click here to see who they were.
  • Our JV meet helpers who did everything they were asked and more
  • Shelby Kasch who not only ran but also sang an awesome National Anthem to kick off our day
  • Lori Schofield, who recruited and organized all our volunteers
  • Trish Kreutz, who planned, shopped, and coordinated lunch for coaches and volunteers and Jill Krusoe, who helped set up, serve, and clean up (we're a crew that runs on our stomachs!)
  • Corner Bakery and Qdoba, who donated food for coaches and volunteers and Road Runner Sports who sponsored our meet with a cash donation to our program
  • Mandi Bauer, Gigi Rex and Janice Hapgood (HRHS Counseling Secretary), who were our concessions managers,  and Coach Trautman (HRHS Football), who was one of our Grill Masters (ditto that thing about our stomachs)
  • Marie McClanahan (HRHS staff member) who kept competitors and events moving as our Clerk of the Course for most of the day
  • Sue Dakovich (Athletic Secretary) and Doylene Gorham (Bookkeeper), who organized student volunteers and managed our gate
  • HRHS Booster alumni Jim Kientz and Curtis Fulton who helped make the morning (especially hurdles set up) run smoothly

At the 2014 HRHS Memorial, we saw lots of PR's (click here for complete results), and HRHS set new meet records in 3 events. All three of these marks are also new All-Time HRHS Records (note: all records are updated at the end of each season):
  • High Jump -- Trevor Rex -- 6'10"
  • Boys 4x100 -- Ben Morgan, Connor Turnage, Eric Dynes, Jalen Kittrell -- 42.21
  • Girls 4x100 -- Alanes Dynes, Shayli Siegfreid, CC Morgan, Taylor Schofield -- 48.68
Our meet produced a total of 16 elite performances. HRHS performances that acheived the National Silver Standard included:
  • Morgan Krusoe -- 300 meter hurdles
  • Macy Kreutz -- 400 meters
  • CC Morgan -- Long Jump
  • Trevor Rex -- High Jump
  • Boys 4x100 Relay
Also of special note, our Girls 800 Sprint Medley Relay is now ranked #15 nationwide with their time from this week of 1:47.15 (new #2 on the HRHS All-Time Records list).
Thanks to HRHS parent, Scott Kasch who took all our photos this week! Click here to check them out.

Coach Versaw, webmaster extraordinaire for ColoradoTrackXC was on hand with his team (The Classical Academy) and provided a great array of photos (free content) as well as a nice write-up of the meet (subscription only content). JV athletes are done competing, but we have awards for last week's Frosh/Soph Conference Meet and a pizza party for all JV athletes at practice this week.

We're down to two meets left in the season -- Conference Championship on Thursday and Saturday this week and the State Meet May 15-17. Stay tuned this week for a State Meet preview, with information on HRHS's State Meet hopefuls and where they stand in the rankings with only one more qualifying meet remaining.

Be sure to mark your calendars for our End of Year Team Celebration on Sunday, May 18 @ 4pm -- this is for JV and Varsity athletes -- more details to come.
