Ashley Visocky

Special congratulations go out to these seniors:

Trevor Rex will continue his career as a high jumper with Stanford next year. Trevor has competed as an individual qualifier at the state meet all four years of his high school career. His opportunity to go on to Stanford is a testament to how he has excelled in high school not only athletically but also academically, musically and through his many other areas of extracurricular involvement.

Graham Butcher will run cross country and track next year at William Jewell College in Missouri. Graham has competed in both cross country and track at HRHS since his freshman year and has been part of four state qualifying teams. He will be running cross country and training as a decathlete at William Jewell.

Shayli Siegfreid has been a contributor to several state qualifying relays since joining HRHS Track as a sophomore. This year she qualified for state individually in the 100 meters. A multi-sport athlete, Shayli will continue her athletic pursuits in college by playing volleyball for Northwest Nazarene University in Idaho.

Ben Morgan has competed for HRHS in both Track and Football since his freshman year. He has contributed to several state qualifying relays, was a state placewinner as a sophomore and was State Long Jump Champion as a junior in 2014, with a shot at defending that title as a senior in 2015. Ben is still weighing offers to compete in track in college.

Andrew Bauer was nominated for Athlete of the Year for Developmental Pathways for his involvement and competition in Track at HRHS. Andrew has competed in the State Meet every year since he was a freshman, and 2015 is no exception. You're always a winner in our hearts, Andrew!

HRHS Memorial and Conference Photos

What a difference a week makes! We went from beautiful, sunny weather (with just one little lightning delay) for the HRHS Memorial (one more BIG THANK YOU to all the parents who made the HRHS Memorial possible!) ....

...to a dreary, cold, wet day for our Conference Championships. We compete rain or shine (with only small safety breaks for lightning) so all our athletes got a chance to put down their best marks both weeks.

Attention Volunteers for the HRHS Memorial Invitational

We have less than 24 hours left until the HRHS Memorial Invitational benefitting Joe Chandler. We've communicated a lot this week so here's what you need to know for the next 24 hours:

Saturday (in chronological order)

  • 7 a.m. -- Coaches will be at Sports Authority setting up the track. Parents, if you're an early bird, come out and help. We'll have bagels and coffee. And we'll let you drive the Gator.
  • 8:00 a.m. -- All athletes should arrive at the stadium. No buses. Click here for schedule.
  • 8:30 a.m. -- Volunteers check-in at garages. If you are a parent volunteer, please click here to double check your assignment. There are a few spaces left for anyone who wants to join the fun. JV Athletes have their assignments and need to report by 8:00 a.m. and stay until the end of the meet.  All volunteers should enter at the lower gate (near the smaller parking lot you come to first when you're driving to the stadium). We will have a list there with your name on it so that you do not have to pay admission. (If your volunteer shift starts later in the day, you still need to come to the lower gate for admission, then go directly to your assigned area). WE LOVE OUR VOLUNTEERS!
  • 9:15 - 3:00 or 4:00 -- We will run the best meet of the season and leave the stadium spotless when we're done. Go Falcons!
  • Post-meet Parent and Coaches Only Party @ On the Rox (SE of I25 on Lincoln)

It was a busy week of track last week! Click here for photos from the JV Championship HRHS hosted on Thursday.

Friday and Saturday our Varsity competed at the Liberty Bell Invitational in Littleton. Despite a lightening delay at the start of the meet Friday night and a microburst on Saturday afternoon that took out all the tents in the stadium (along with a thankfully uninjured 4x100 meter relay runner -- see Denver post photo here), it was a good meet for us!

Some of our freshmen and sophomores also got a chance to compete in a state qualifying meet in Brighton on Saturday. Be sure to look for your athlete's page on CO Milesplit, where times from all state qualifying meets are posted. Click here and search for your athlete's name.

We saw lots of PR's and season's best performances this weekend and look forward to continued improvement as athletes hit the peaks our coaches train and plan for at the end of our season.

Not only does our meet serve a great cause, but coaches from other teams consistently say it's the most well-run meet they attend each season.

We need all hands on deck (and feet on the track) to keep that reputation alive.

This meet can only run with LOTS of parent participation!

Team Dinners ... and Honoring Joe Chandler

With three meets over four days this week, there's no good time to squeeze in a Team Dinner, but we have two more coming up on April 17 and May 1.

So far this season turnouts for Team Dinners have been great! The number of shoes in the entry is only one measure of that -- we've also gone through almost 20 pounds of pasta! No one has left hungry! Thank you to all of the parents who have hosted, supplied food, drinks, salad and cookies.

There are two more dinners left. Please see the links below to help serve or supply food:

The Butcher Family Dinner Friday, April 17th http://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c084daaa923a20-butcher

HRHS Memorial Track Meet

Thank you to everyone who responded to our email and signed up for the Highlands Ranch Memorial Meet.

There are many more slots to be filled.

The HRHS Memorial, now in its fifth year, was designed to provide a tremendous meet for our athletes while also providing an opportunity to give back to our community. The first meet honored HRHS's legendary shot put coach, Ron Hambric, whom we lost the previous season. This year, we are honoring Joe Chandler, a teacher at Highlands Ranch High School that passed way over the fall. He was recognized for having the best ACE (Alternative Cooperative Education) program in the state.

Not only does our meet serve a great cause, but coaches from other teams consistently say it's the most well-run meet they attend each season, and we need all hands on deck (and feet on the track) to keep that reputation alive.

We can only run a meet that great with LOTS of parent participation!
  • Volunteers get free meet admission, lunch and our eternal thanks!
Join us after the meet for a Parents and Coaches Only Party at On the Rox (on Lincoln SE of I-25).

Meet Results and Photos from Mustang Invite

Last week our JV competed in less-than-ideal conditions, and this week we will host the JV meet at HRHS on Thursday.

Varsity competed at the Mustang Invite on a beautiful Saturday. Our team did well with both boys and girls scoring in the top 10 at a meet with 30 teams. Go Falcons!

Click here for complete results from the Mustang Invite.

We love providing photos for athletes and their fans. However, our photographer will be out of town this week. If you can provide photo coverage of any of the three meets we have over four days this week, please email Kim Turnage, who can help you get your photos uploaded to our online album so we can share them with the entire team.

From the Track Boosters……..

Hi Everyone,

We are four weeks away from our Highlands Ranch Memorial Track Meet on Saturday, May 2nd.

WE NEED YOUR HELP!!!!!!!!!!

The HRHS Memorial Meet has developed a reputation as one of the finest meets in the Denver Metro, largely due to the efforts of our parent volunteers.

WE NEED YOU to make this year's meet great! No experience needed. All you need is a smile and a willingness to create a great experience for our kids!  We have something for everyone.

  • Event volunteers and flag workers are on the track making events happen -- this is the only time all year you'll be able to get this close to the action.
  • Concessions volunteers have guaranteed temperature control and shade.
  • Hospitality and Awards volunteers are right down on the track with a great view plus shade if they want it.
  • PLUS all volunteers get a great lunch and are invited for the after party.
Questions? Contact Gigi Rex.

NEW THIS YEAR: EVENT SPONSORSHIPS
This year, we are offering Event Sponsorships. These are an opportunity for local businesses to get some great exposure while making a big difference for the community! Event Sponsors have their name connected to an event (e.g. 100 Meters, Shot Put, 4x800 Relay, etc.), have their name announced multiple times over the loudspeaker at the meet, and their logo goes on t-shirts that are awarded to event winners from the multiple teams that will participate in our meet. Their names and links to their websites will also be featured on our website. Click here for all the details.
Questions?  Contact Susie Helmer.

Meet Results and Photos March 18-21

We're making the most of the sunshine and warm weather as our 2015 season ramps up!

Click here for photos from the March 18 JV Meet HRHS hosted right before Spring Break.

During the first weekend of Spring Break several of our varsity athletes and some of our coaches traveled to Phoenix for the 75th Annual Chandler Rotary Meet. It was a great meet for our team with great weather for competing!

Qualifying for State in 2015

With Spring Break behind us, the track season moves into full swing this weekend.  Qualifying for State is the pinnacle of the high school track experience, and we celebrate our athletes who achieve that goal! Click here for pictures and results for HRHS's 2014 State Qualifiers.

What does it take to make it to state? Qualifying for State is all about performance. The top 18 marks in each classification qualify. Every year, the minimum qualifying marks change for each event based on that year's performance, but the minimum qualifying marks (ie., the 18th rank) for previous years might help define a trend. Here are the 2013 and 2014 qualifying marks for 5A Girls and 5A Boys compiled by Colorado TrackXC.

You can keep track of the standings for 2015 using the official MaxPreps State Leaderboards:
Click here for official Boys 5A State Leaderboards by event.

Valor Meet Results and Photos

We couldn't have asked for better weather for our first week of competition!

HRHS Track took a record 90 athletes to the JV meet at Regis on Thursday!! We don't have any photos of that meet but will have plenty this week from our Wednesday JV meet at home.

Our Saturday meet at Valor was a great start to the season! This was one of the premier meets in the region so it received extensive coverage on CO Milesplit (see links below).

We're excited about all the possibilities and potential we saw in these first meets. And remember.... It's not where we start; it's where we finish! Our goal is to peak in early May. We have had great success in past seasons with this as our goal, and with what we saw at both the JV Meet and the Valor Meet, things are very bright for us once again this season!

MEET PHOTOS AND RESULTS

  • Click here for the CO Milesplit coverage.  CO Milesplit is the best source of track news in the state. For this week's meet, you'll find links for:
    • A Meet Preview article that featured this splash photo of Ben Morgan, HRHS Track's defending State Champion long jumper
    • Heat Sheets (heat sheets for most of our varsity meets can be viewed and printed from Milesplit using the Schedule tab and the link for the specific meet)
    • Photos and Meet Coverage
  • Click here for HRHS Track photos. When Milesplit covers one of our meets like they did this week, you may find photos of our athletes in their coverage. Our photos feature only our athletes, and we try to get them all. In the course of a single meet, there are always some we miss, but by the end of the season, we should get great shots of everyone.
  • Congratulations to seniors Trevor Rex and Ben Morgan. Trevor's high jump of 6'7" met the national silver standard performance and ranks him 3rd among 5A Boys High Jumpers in Colorado. Ben's long jump of 22'0" ranks him #1 among 5A Boys Long Jumpers in the state.
LOOKING AHEAD TO THE COMING WEEK

  • Monday 3/16 -- JV AND VARSITY PRACTICE AT 3PM (students get out of school at noon)
  • Wednesday 3/18 -- JV MEET @ HOME @ 3:45 -- our Varsity athletes work the meet. Any parents who are interested in volunteering are welcome. Contact Coach Padjen.
  • Thursday 3/19 -- Varsity athletes competing in our Arizona Spring Break Meet leave.
    • A full itinerary will be available Monday. We will need several drivers to the airport Thursday and on our return on Sunday.
  • Spring Break is not a break from track! It's an opportunity for us to continue to improve. For those who will be out of town, coaches will post workouts to do on your own. For those in town, it's important to be at practice every day!
PARENTS, WE NEED YOU!
  • Help NOW with our Memorial Meet by being an Event Sponsor or finding someone who will be one (your doctor, dentist, orthodontist, realtor and favorite local business owner are all great candidates!).  Volunteer NOW to help LATER with our Memorial Meet by volunteering for one of many roles that make the meet happen on May 2.  Click here for details.

Their names and links to their websites will also be featured on our website. Click here for all the details.

Help Make Team Dinners Happen!

Team Dinners are a great HRHS Track tradition. All Varsity and JV athletes are invited. Hosts provide the venue. Co-hosts help serve. Dinners are pasta (provided by hosts/co-hosts), salad, bread, drinks and dessert.

Thank you to the parents who have volunteered to host our Team Dinners this year! We are still looking for one host family, several co-hosts, and people to donate food and drinks for team dinners. Please click on the links below to see how you can help with upcoming team dinners.

2014 Highlights and 2015 Game Plan

This will be a great year for HRHS Track!

    • We have 12 returning state qualifiers
    • Our varsity athletes will have the opportunity to travel to Chandler, Arizona over Spring Break to compete in one of the premier high school track meets in the nation (click here for more info: cost is $575)
    • We had more athletes than ever before train with us during the Fall, and we know those numbers will grow as we begin Winter training this week (starting Wednesday, January 7 @ 3:10 - 4:30 meet in the weight room)
Looking back on 2014, we have a lot to celebrate! Here are some of the highlights:

    For our returning athletes:

    • We had 18 state placewinners out of 21 total state qualifiers in 2014 and 12 of those qualifiers are BACK this year!!
    • Returning senior, Ben Morgan, was a State Champion in long jump and will bid for a repeat in 2015
    • Returning senior, Trevor Rex, won his third state medal in three years and will go for the gold in 2015
    • Ten other state qualifiers return to our team this year and will likely qualify again, both in individual events and in relays that will bring even more HRHS Track athletes to the state meet in 2015
    • Two of our returning sophomores were ranked #2 Statewide among Freshmen last year, Kaden Lathrop in the 800 meters and Richard Kepfer in the 300 meter hurdles -- we're excited to see what this year will bring for them! Click here for details
    For our most recent grads:
    • 2014 graduate Connor Turnage became Colorado's first ever 3-time state triple jump champion
    • 2014 graduate Macy Kreutz extended our string of state placewinners in distance to 7 years with her second place finish in the 800 meters
    • Three of our graduating seniors and state medalists in 2014 went on to Division 1 athletic scholarships:  Macy Kreutz to CSU (XC and Track), Connor Turnage to Nebraska (Track), CC Morgan to DU (Basketball)
    For our coaches:
    • In his other coaching job, Coach Krauss led HRHS Volleyball to a Top 5 finish in 2014
    • Coach Padjen published his first book, Simply the Best: One Hero's Story. (It's about his dad, Will, and illustrated by his daughter, Koreen....talent runs in the family!) Click here to see it.
    For our alumni:
    • Former HRHS Track state qualifier and current CSU wide receiver Joe Hansley helped CSU to a bowl game this year
    • HRHS Track standout Eleanor Fulton, now at University of Washington, made All-Pac 10 and qualified for the NCAA Championship in cross country this year
    • Two former HRHS Track letterwinners made NFL rosters this year (Jace Davis with the Baltimore Ravens and Mike Purcell with the San Francisco 49ers)

We're excited about what 2015 will bring! It all starts NOW - with Winter Training. See you on Wednesday!
