Another National Recognition

Congratulations to HRHS senior CC Morgan, who is a sprinter/jumper for HRHS Track and a key member of the HRHS girls basketball team. CC has been named a Colorado finalist for the 2014 McDonalds All-American Games.

CC was one of twelve male and female Colorado prep basketball players who were announced last week as nominees for the 2014 McDonald’s All-American Games. Two HRHS boys were also nominated -- Evan Motlong and Zach Braxton.

The final teams, to be announced during the McDonald’s All American Games Selection Show on ESPNU at 4 p.m. Jan. 29, will consist of 24 boys and 24 girls. The games will take place April 2 at the United Center in Chicago.

Congratulations, CC! We're proud of you!

HRHS Jumpers Nationally Ranked

Colorado high schools do not have a CHSAA-sanctioned indoor track season, but some of our athletes compete on their own. Currently, fourteen Colorado athletes are ranked among the Top 25 in the nation in their events.

Two of those nationally ranked competitors are HRHS Track athletes. Congruatulations to Trevor Rex and Connor Turnage! Rex is ranked #11 with his high jump of 6'6". Turnage is ranked #2 with his triple jump of 48' 2.25".

Deleting 2013 Track Photos

Last year, HRHS Track posted over 3,500 photos of our Varsity and JV athletes at meets! Click here to them all.

On Monday, February 3, we'll be deleting all 2013 photos EXCEPT the "Track 2013" album. We think the album we're keeping is a great representation of our season, and we're deleting all the other albums from 2013 to make room for all the pictures we'll take in just a few months when the 2014 season gets underway.

Between now and February 3, please download any photos from the meet-specific folders you would like to keep. See below for instructions.

1. Click here to access all our photo albums.
2. Click on any album to see thumbnails of all the photos on it.
3. Click on any individual photo to zoom and access the download options.
4. Just above the photo, click on "Actions" then click on "Download Photo."

That's it! Still can't figure it out? Don't panic! Email Kim and she'll help.

Is Your Athlete Interested in Competing in College?

If your HRHS athlete is interested in competing in Track and Field (or any other sport) in college, he or she must meet NCAA initial-eligibility academic standards, and tracking progress toward those standards starts as early as sophomore year.

The NCAA has recently tightened academic standards for the class of 2016 and beyond, and it is important for prospective athletes to make sure they are on track for academic eligibility. The timing is critical for sophomores and juniors, as some academic eligibility requirements must now be met before the beginning of senior year.

Click here to download a PDF summary of NCAA Division 1 initial-eligibility academic standards.

The athletic department at Highlands Ranch High School provides free access for HRHS student athletes and their parents to, where you can create a free account and track individual academic progress toward eligibility. Click here to get started.  Use School ID = 060742   and School Code =  750920111  to create your free account.

Sprinter Taylor Schofield Selected as Boettcher Semifinalist

Congratulations to HRHS senior sprinter, Taylor Schofield, who is one of only 200 students statewide to be selected as a Semifinalist for the Boettcher Scholarship.

The Boettcher Scholarship, modeled after the Rhodes Scholarship Program, is the most prestigious merit-based scholarship available to graduating high school seniors in Colorado.

Boettcher Scholarship selection criteria include:

  • Superior Scholastic Ability
  • Evidence of Potential Leadership
  • Service to Community and School
  • Outstanding Character
Based on reference letters, the pool of 200 Semifinalists will be narrowed to 70 finalists, from which 40 scholarship winners will be selected based on personal interviews. Congratulations to Taylor on being named a Semifinalist. We're all cheering for her to be a finalist and, eventually, a scholarship winner (but in our eyes she already is a winner)!
