Fundraiser Update and Banquet Reminder

Donations kept coming into our team fundraiser after we announced a total earlier this season. What a great team effort!

Thanks to all our athletes, their families, and their fans, we raised about $15,000 this season. What will we do with all those donations? Here are some of the big items on our list:

  • New uniforms (we've heard lots of excitement from athletes around this)
  • New high quality starting blocks that will stay put and not slip (equally exciting)
  • New pole vault mat cover (this has already been purchased and gone into use)
  • Additional timing equipment for training
Other uses of our fundraising dollars typically include new equipment as needed (shots, discuses, poles, bars, rakes, etc.), stipends for additional coaches who are not covered in our district budget, and our traditions like CaPRiSuns for PRs, Chocolate Milk Mondays, and our banquet and awards expenses.

And speaking of banquets...

The HRHS Track banquet comes so late in the school year because we wait until after the State Championship so we can celebrate ALL of our team's achievements. Even though JV finished competing a couple of weeks ago, Monday's banquet will be just two days after the completion of the State Championship.

We're excited to celebrate with the entire team! All JV and Varsity athletes and their families are invited to our end of season banquet on

Monday, May 22nd @ 6:15 in the HRHS Commons

  • Sophomores and Juniors: Bring heavy appetizers or salads to feed at least 10 people
  • Freshmen and Seniors: Bring desserts to feed at least 10 people
  • Coaches will provide plates, silverware, and drinks

for current 6th - 12th graders (2022/2023 school year)

When?

Monday thru Thursday at 10:30am - 12:30pm for 4 weeks beginning June 5th and ending June 29th

The program will involve:

Why?
Speed, agility, and power are key components to being successful in any sport. And we get results!
  • In the past 10 years, we have had 10 State Champions, 7 runners up, and 24 in the top 5 at State.
  • In our head coach’s tenure, we have had 42 State Champions, 41 runners up, and 116 in the Top 5 at State.
  • Our program has averaged over 15 state qualifiers each year over the past decade, and many of those athletes have also excelled in other sports.
  • Our coaches have been involved in the athletic development of several athletes who went on to compete collegiately in D1, D2, and D3 programs, not only in track and field but also in football, volleyball, basketball, soccer, swimming, and crew.
  • Four of our track letter winners have been in NFL camps, and two have played regular season games. A fifth is a likely future draft pick.
  • Our track athletes have been Denver Post Athletes of the Year, Gatorade Athletes of the Year, All-Americans, and All-World competitors

BANQUET RESCHEDULED

In a season where we've done more rescheduling than ever before, we have one more change for you. To make it possible for more of our seniors to be able to attend the banquet, we are moving the banquet to:

Monday, May 22nd at 6:15 p.m. in the HRHS Commons

Thank you to everyone for your flexibility. Please mark your calendar for this time to celebrate all of our athletes and their accomplishments this season! Even though JV finished their season before Varsity, we still want to celebrate ALL our athletes at this time.

Our tradition has been a potluck for this event, and based on feedback from athletes and parents, we're continuing that tradition. This is an event for the whole family to come and help celebrate your athlete's achievement. More information to come on what you can bring.

Meanwhile, freshman, sophomore, and junior parents, please watch for emails from some of our parent leaders on how you can help make this banquet special for our kids. (Senior parents, we see you, and we know this time of year is busy enough for you already.)

League Results and the Coming Week

Last week was a busy one for our team! Regardless of where people placed in our JV and Varsity League meets, we had TONS of peak performances with many of our athletes achieving new PRs. Our athletes are finishing out this season with excellence!

Another word of thanks to the Carbone family for hosting and to all the other families who helped provide food for our final Cinco de Mayo team dinner. We appreciate you!

This Week:

Wednesday, May 10th - Varsity @ Denver Christian (map)

  • This meet is rescheduled from earlier in the season when it was snowed out.
  • Events start at 4pm, but meet directors have not sent us a meet schedule.
  • Meet directors say that school and local business traffic gets INTENSE around their campus after 3pm. They have advised teams to arrive before 3pm to avoid that traffic.

Friday - Saturday, May 12-13 -- Varsity @ Windjammer Classic Last Chance Meet

  • Map
  • Schedule and meet information
  • Check in required 30 minutes before start time for field events
  • Friday  - 6 p.m. start for both track and field
  • Saturday - 9 a.m. field events; 10 a.m. track events

"Last chance for what," you may ask. This week is the last chance to qualify for state. Top 18 in each event qualify. Here are our athletes who are ranked in the top 25 after this week:

9th - Girls 4x100
9th - Bridget Carbone - triple jump
13th - Sasha Naushad - long jump

Week 6 Updates

THANK YOU

We appreciate all the athletes and families who have already contributed and/or sent out emails to support our fundraiser. Keep up the great work!

Also a big thank you to all the families who have already signed up to help with Friday's Team Dinner -- we just need some salad and the meal is complete.

THIS WEEK

SUMMER CAMP

Mark your calendars for the month of June. We will have morning Speed Camp Monday-Thursday for 4 weeks during the month of June (Cost: $150 for the month). We are still working on field/weight room schedules for the summer and will post a starting time and info sheet soon.

Why our camp? Speed, agility, and power are key components to success in any sport. And we get results!  Our summer speed camps have a decades long tradition, and our coaches have helped develop athletes who went on to complete collegiately in D1, D2, and D3 not only in track and field but also in football, volleyball, basketball, soccer, swimming, and crew. Some of our athletes have even gone on to compete professionally in track and field, football, and volleyball.

WINTER/INDOOR TRACK

Looking even farther ahead...for our athletes who will not be competing in fall/winter sports, we will again offer fall/winter track, including some indoor meets in December - February before our regular high school season starts in late February/early March. More details coming soon. Meanwhile, let Coach Krauss know if you're interested in training and competing in some indoor meets this winter.

Our one and only fundraiser of the season kicks off on Friday. Our campaign will raise money by telling our story via email, text messages, and social media. Parents and guardians, we're asking for your help to collect at least 20 email addresses for your child's biggest fans before Friday.

(use the 9-digit code: 519-706-589)

Here are fans to consider adding to your athlete's profile:
  • Parents/Guardians

What Our Fundraiser Funds

Your athletic fee pays for our meet registrations and some of our coaches. Our fundraiser helps pay additional coaches. It also helps us pay for uniforms, implements (shots, discs, poles, bars, rakes, hurdles, mat covers, batons, timing equipment, etc), chocolate milk, CaPRiSuns, communication tools, end of season awards, and more. Thank you for all of that!

What Our Fundraiser Is
....fast
...easy
...online
...a way for friends and family to support our athletes

What Our Fundraiser Isn't
...a three-digit booster fee assessed to each family
...athletes trying to sell stuff nobody really wants to strangers
...going door to door
...time consuming

We really like all the things our fundraiser isn't! Please help us make it great this season!

Changes to Broomfield Schedule

(Note: If you received an earlier email this morning, this is a copy of that information for our website)

We have an UPDATED TENTATIVE SCHEDULE for today's Broomfield meet. However, there are updates to the updates already this morning because of weather conditions at the track.

Relative to the UPDATED TENTATIVE SCHEDULE, all field events EXCEPT SHOT PUT are running two hours later than scheduled and all running events are running one hour later than scheduled.

That said, the schedule is still rolling so events will accelerate on the schedule as time allows. Also, some teams originally scheduled for the meet have decided not to compete so flights and heats will be condensed today.

The best way to stay updated on the schedule today is through TeamSnap. If you have not already accepted our invitation to join TeamSnap, please do that today or email Coach Kane to be added at sakane597@gmail.com

TEAM DINNERS

This week's scheduled Team Dinner is canceled because we do not have a host home. The team is grateful to the parents who are hosting our remaining two Team Dinners this season. Please support those parents and our team by signing up to help with food/beverages for those dinners.

COMING SOON

Next Friday (March 31) we have two big events before practice:

1.  Team Photo -- everyone needs to bring their uniform

2.  Fundraiser Launch -- We will be doing SnapRaise, and every athlete will need to have emails for 30 contacts who might help support them this season. Here are some ideas for emails to start collecting for people who would love to support our athletes:
  • extended family members
  • friends and neighbors
  • pediatricians, dentists, orthodontists, chiropractors, physical therapists, etc.
  • employers if athletes have part time jobs (including families you babysit or petsit for)

Week 2 Updates - We Need a Team Dinner Host This Week!

Welcome to Week 2! It's more winter than spring today, but the forecast looks promising for our meets this week.

WEATHER AND WARM GEAR

Even when the sun is shining and it's over 40 degrees, the wind chill can be significant, and the weather can change within a matter of minutes. Bring and wear layers to practice and meets to stay warm! Click here for HRHS Track gear.

COMMUNICATION

This season we're piloting TeamSnap as a communication tool for our team. Thanks to a parent for suggesting it! We'll be running it in parallel with our website and emails, so you'll have multiple ways to get information on what's happening this season. Please watch for an invite to TeamSnap and follow directions to get the app. Once you're up and running, we'd love your feedback!

WE NEED HOSTS FOR TEAM DINNERS

Team Dinners are our best opportunities for team bonding. We have four team dinners scheduled this season with the first this Friday, but we have no host homes for any of those four dates.

You don't need a mega-mansion to host. You don't even need tables and chairs! All you need is a willingness to open your home, floor space, a few pounds of pasta with some sauce, and some disposable plates and forks. It's a team effort for all the rest. Other parents drop off salad, dessert, drinks, and bread.

If you're thinking about hosting but need a few questions answered, contact Coach Turnage. She hosted several team dinners in the years her kids were on the team and is happy to answer your questions. Please sign up to host a dinner today so we can continue this tradition the kids love.
