Fundraiser Update and Banquet Reminder

Donations kept coming into our team fundraiser after we announced a total earlier this season. What a great team effort!

Thanks to all our athletes, their families, and their fans, we raised about $15,000 this season. What will we do with all those donations? Here are some of the big items on our list:

  • New uniforms (we've heard lots of excitement from athletes around this)
  • New high quality starting blocks that will stay put and not slip (equally exciting)
  • New pole vault mat cover (this has already been purchased and gone into use)
  • Additional timing equipment for training
Other uses of our fundraising dollars typically include new equipment as needed (shots, discuses, poles, bars, rakes, etc.), stipends for additional coaches who are not covered in our district budget, and our traditions like CaPRiSuns for PRs, Chocolate Milk Mondays, and our banquet and awards expenses.

And speaking of banquets...

The HRHS Track banquet comes so late in the school year because we wait until after the State Championship so we can celebrate ALL of our team's achievements. Even though JV finished competing a couple of weeks ago, Monday's banquet will be just two days after the completion of the State Championship.

We're excited to celebrate with the entire team! All JV and Varsity athletes and their families are invited to our end of season banquet on

Monday, May 22nd @ 6:15 in the HRHS Commons

  • Sophomores and Juniors: Bring heavy appetizers or salads to feed at least 10 people
  • Freshmen and Seniors: Bring desserts to feed at least 10 people
  • Coaches will provide plates, silverware, and drinks

Register Now: HRHS Track Summer Speed Camp

HRHS Speed Camp
Hosted by HRHS Track Coaches

Who?
for current 6th - 12th graders (2022/2023 school year)

When?

Monday thru Thursday at 10:30am - 12:30pm for 4 weeks beginning June 5th and ending June 29th
Camp will meet outside the HRHS Gym on first day

What?
The program will involve:
  • Running form/speed/agility training
  • Power and core development
  • Proper lifting technique and strength/power development
  • Technique coaching for athletes interested in jumps and hurdles
This is NOT a conditioning camp. Every drill and exercise is designed to improve running form and develop speed, agility, and power.

Why?
Speed, agility, and power are key components to being successful in any sport. And we get results!
  • In the past 10 years, we have had 10 State Champions, 7 runners up, and 24 in the top 5 at State.
  • In our head coach’s tenure, we have had 42 State Champions, 41 runners up, and 116 in the Top 5 at State.
  • Our program has averaged over 15 state qualifiers each year over the past decade, and many of those athletes have also excelled in other sports.
  • Our coaches have been involved in the athletic development of several athletes who went on to compete collegiately in D1, D2, and D3 programs, not only in track and field but also in football, volleyball, basketball, soccer, swimming, and crew.
  • Four of our track letter winners have been in NFL camps, and two have played regular season games. A fifth is a likely future draft pick.
  • Our track athletes have been Denver Post Athletes of the Year, Gatorade Athletes of the Year, All-Americans, and All-World competitors

BANQUET RESCHEDULED

In a season where we've done more rescheduling than ever before, we have one more change for you. To make it possible for more of our seniors to be able to attend the banquet, we are moving the banquet to:

Monday, May 22nd at 6:15 p.m. in the HRHS Commons

Thank you to everyone for your flexibility. Please mark your calendar for this time to celebrate all of our athletes and their accomplishments this season! Even though JV finished their season before Varsity, we still want to celebrate ALL our athletes at this time.

Our tradition has been a potluck for this event, and based on feedback from athletes and parents, we're continuing that tradition. This is an event for the whole family to come and help celebrate your athlete's achievement. More information to come on what you can bring.

Meanwhile, freshman, sophomore, and junior parents, please watch for emails from some of our parent leaders on how you can help make this banquet special for our kids. (Senior parents, we see you, and we know this time of year is busy enough for you already.)

League Results and the Coming Week

Last week was a busy one for our team! Regardless of where people placed in our JV and Varsity League meets, we had TONS of peak performances with many of our athletes achieving new PRs. Our athletes are finishing out this season with excellence!

Another word of thanks to the Carbone family for hosting and to all the other families who helped provide food for our final Cinco de Mayo team dinner. We appreciate you!

This Week:

Wednesday, May 10th - Varsity @ Denver Christian (map)

  • This meet is rescheduled from earlier in the season when it was snowed out.
  • Events start at 4pm, but meet directors have not sent us a meet schedule.
  • Meet directors say that school and local business traffic gets INTENSE around their campus after 3pm. They have advised teams to arrive before 3pm to avoid that traffic.

Friday - Saturday, May 12-13 -- Varsity @ Windjammer Classic Last Chance Meet

  • Map
  • Schedule and meet information
  • Check in required 30 minutes before start time for field events
  • Friday  - 6 p.m. start for both track and field
  • Saturday - 9 a.m. field events; 10 a.m. track events

"Last chance for what," you may ask. This week is the last chance to qualify for state. Top 18 in each event qualify. Here are our athletes who are ranked in the top 25 after this week:

9th - Girls 4x100
9th - Bridget Carbone - triple jump
13th - Sasha Naushad - long jump
15th - Girls 4x200
22nd - Rose Calkins - 100 meters
25th - Girls 4x800
