Our Multiple Talents

We are a multi-talented team!

Congratulations to our Girls Track & Field Team whose cumulative GPA of 3.56  has qualified them for the CHSAA Academic Team Championship Award. We are proud of the way these athletes excel both in the classrooom and on the field of competition.

A number of our HRHS Track athletes are also artists and/or musicians. Below are images of some of them and their work captured at the Arts Alive Carnival at HRHS on Tuesday night. Apologies to those of you I missed.

Good luck to all our Frosh/Soph competitors and coaches at Wednesday's meet and to all our competitors, coaches and parent volunteers at Saturday's HRHS Memorial Meet!

Team Pictures: Take 2

Our previous attempt to take team pictures was sidelined by another team taking the field early. We chose a practice over a photo shoot that day, but tomorrow (Tuesday 4/29) we plan to get the team photo at the beginning of practice. Wear your uniform to practice. And be sure to bring some sweats for after the photo because it's supposed to be another chilly day for practice.

Making the HRHS Memorial Great

The HRHS Memorial, now in its fourth year, was designed to provide a tremendous meet for our athletes while also providing an opportunity to give back to our community. The first meet honored HRHS's legendary shot put coach, Ron Hambric, whom we lost the previous season. This year, we are dedicating the meet in the memory of Claire Davis, the Arapahoe student who was tragically taken from us this past winter, and our athletes will be selling pink shoelaces in her honor with the proceeds going to The Second Wind Fund, which provides free mental health care for students in our community. We would like to thank everyone for their support with this meet and for supporting The Second Wind Fund in honor of Claire Davis.

Not only does our meet serve a great cause, but coaches from other teams consistently say it's the most well-run meet they attend each season, and we need all hands on deck (and feet on the track) to keep that reputation alive. Here's a note we got from a coach after last year's meet:
Coach, I wanted to let you know I thought you guys did a great job at the meet on Saturday. I have only been coaching track in CO for 4 years most of my time is from my home state of Louisiana. But I gotta say that was the most efficiently run meet I have been to in my time here. Nice Work, good luck for the rest of the season.
We can only run a meet that great with LOTS of parent participation!
  • Our greatest needs are on wind gauges (this is one of the few positions where you'll be sitting rather than standing) and concessions (this is one of the few positions where shade is a sure thing)including Grill Masters .
  • Volunteers get free meet admission, lunch and our eternal thanks!
  • We will have a black canopy set up near the finish line where HRHS parents and supporters can hang out when they are not busy volunteering. Look for it and spend some time getting to know other parents at the meet!
  • If you can't be at the track on Saturday, you can still help! We need donations of 7 cases of water and 12 dozen cookies/brownies/cupcakes for our Coach/Volunteer Lunch. Please email Trish Kreutz before Thursday if you can donate a case of water or a dozen cookies/brownies/cupcakes.
Join us after the meet for a Parents and Coaches Only Party at On the Rox (on Lincoln SE of I-25).

This Week in Track: 4/28 - 5/3

Here are all the details on this week; please read all the way to the end -- lots of info about our meet (including a parent party afterward) so don't miss any of it.

Wednesday 4/30 -- Frosh/Soph Conference Championship @ Sports Authority @ 3pm
  • Bus to the meet leaves HRHS @ 1:30 pm; there is no bus back -- please make arrangements for athletes to be picked up at the stadium at the end of the meet
  • This meet is only for freshmen and sophomores
  • We are allowed to enter 4 individuals and 1 relay per event
  • Events are electronically timed (all JV meets have been hand timed), and this meet is a state qualifier. Results will be available online, and we'll send out a link when they are posted.
  • Each school is responsible for providing officials for one event. HRHS has been assigned to Long Jump. No experience required. We'll teach you everything you need to know. This is a great way to get close to the action! Click here to email Coach Padjen to say you'll help.

Saturday 5/3 -- HRHS Memorial Invitational @ Sports Authority
  • No bus.  Athletes need to arrive by 8:15am. Scroll down for meet schedule
  • We still need volunteers. If you've been waiting until we really needed you to volunteer, now is the time! We especially need help on wind gauges (sitting!) and in concessions (shade!)Click here to sign yourself up for an open slot. Volunteers get free meet admission, lunch, and our eternal thanks.
  • We need donations of cases of bottled water and about 12 dozen cookies/brownies/cupcakes for our coaches/volunteers lunch. Please email Trish Kreutz before Thursday if you can donate a case of water or a dozen cookies, brownies or cupcakes.
  • All JV athletes are required to be at the meet from start to finish -- they will each be assigned to jobs that make everything run more smoothly. JV athletes, please remember that the Varsity athletes have made 2 meets run for you at HRHS this year. This is your chance to give back AND see what you have to look forward to in varsity meets.
  • We will have a black canopy set up near the finish line where HRHS parents and supporters can hang out when they are not busy volunteering. Look for it and spend some time getting to know other parents at the meet!
  • Party For Parents and Coaches Only at On the Rox (SE of I-25 on Lincoln) after the meet.

Liberty Bell 2014 Results

If you came out for the Liberty Bell this weekend, you saw some of the best track and field performances in Colorado - and in some cases in the nation -- so far this year. This meet hosted over 50 teams, and for the most part, the weather cooperated, though headwinds on both days and an interesting barometric pressure environment on Saturday created challenges for some athletes.

Our boys took home a 3rd place trophy, scoring 45 points in the team standings. Connor Turnage was named the Boys Field Event MVP for the meet.

Our girls placed 11th with 27 team points.

Normally, we have so many athletes placing in events that we don't list individual placers, but this meet is huge so congratulations to all our athletes who competed and especially to those below, who placed or nearly placed in their events (click here for full results):

This Week in Track: April 21-26 -- NOTE SCHEDULE CHANGE

CHANGE IN JV CHAMPIONSHIP TO WEDNESDAY, APRIL 23
We've had this change and the addition of Team Pictures to our schedule for this week. Our Varsity meet is also over 2 days this week on Friday and Saturday. Lots of details to track, so please read carefully all the way to the bottom! Our calendar has been updated to reflect these changes.

Last Week for Schwan's Fundraiser

We need everyone to make one more big push to finish strong before our campaign ends on April 26. Click here for all the information you need and please note that though e-Certificates are limited to "one per customer," Schwan's defines a "customer" as an email address. You can buy as many e-Certificates as you have email addresses, and e-Certificates purchased under multiple email addresses can be redeemed for orders from a single account. There is also no limit to the number of e-Certificates you can redeem in a single order. So stock up on ice cream and pizza before summer starts!

Parents, We Need You!

We still have about 30 slots available for parent volunteers to help make the HRHS Memorial Meet great on May 3. Having parent volunteers officiate events frees up our coaches to help our kids achieve their best possible performances. Our greatest areas of need are in High Jump, Pole Vault and Concessions. No experience needed. Coaches will give you all the information you need and be there to help if you have questions during events. Click here to sign up.

Wednesday, April 23 -- JV Championship @ Heritage @ 3:30pm

Because Heritage High School hosts both our JV Championship and our Varsity Liberty Bell meets this week, they have moved the JV Championship meet up a day to WEDNESDAY, APRIL 23 @ 3:30pm

Thursday, April 24 -- Team Pictures and Team Dinner

  • Team Picture will be taken at practice. All athletes need to come to practice wearing uniform tops and uniform shorts.
  • Team Dinner at Kelsey Mullins' house @ 6:30 - 8:00 pm. Click here to help provide food/drinks.

Friday/Saturday, April 25-26 -- Liberty Bell

  • This is a 2-day meet at Littleton High School Stadium (Take Broadway North to Littleton Avenue then turn East to the stadium). We will have no buses.
  • Plan to arrive at the track a minimum of 90 minutes before your scheduled event. Parking is always a challenge at this meet. Be prepared to find parking in the surrounding neighborhoods and walk to the stadium.
  • Click here for schedule (note schedule will move ahead if possible on Friday but adhere to timeline on Saturday)
Let's have some fun and put down some great performances this week!  Go Falcons!

Weekend Results and Photos: April 18-19

Our JV athletes had some great performances at our home meet on Friday, and our team manager, Katie Demchak took lots of photos. Click here for the album.

Thanks to the Bauer Family and their co-hosts and food/drink contributors for another great team dinner after Friday's meet.

Saturday, our Varsity competed at the Grandview Invitational and had another great week of performances. One of the outstanding performances of the day came with Trevor Rex's 6'9.5" high jump, which set a new HRHS all-time school record and ranks #1 in the Colorado 5A rankings. Click here for complete meet results. Click here for photos.

Coming Soon:

  • JV Championship @ Heritage -- Thursday 4/24
  • Liberty Bell @ Littleton High School Stadium -- Friday and Saturday 4/25-4/26
  • HRHS Memorial Invite -- Saturday 5/3.  We need Varsity and JV parent volunteers! We have about 1/2 of our slots filled and still need 30 parents to help make this meet the best of the season. Click here to sign up.

This Week in Track: April 14-19

  • Keep working hard in practice and keep working toward new PR's!
Only two meets left before our HRHS Memorial Invite on May 3. All JV athletes need to be at the meet from start to finish to help. Schwan's Fundraising Blitz

We have less than 2 weeks to finish strong in our Schwan's fundraising campaign. So far, we have 73 fundraisers signed up, but only 17 have raised any money for HRHS Track. Click here to see our list of fundraisers.

We are asking all of our athletes to sell at least 5 eCertificates to raise $50 for our team. Schwan's makes it easy....nothing to deliver, no money to collect AND with the click of a mouse you can use email, Twitter, and Facebook to share your fundraising efforts with all your friends and family. Here are step by step instructions on how you can help. Also, click here and here for forms you can use to ask people to help with your fundraising efforts in person.

If you are a Fundraiser:

  • Click here and find your name on our list of fundraisers
  • Click on your name
  • Here's an example of what you'll see (this is Macy Kreutz's page)
  • On the right side of the page, click on the icon for Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, or email to invite your friends and family members to support you. It's that easy!
  • They will get a link to your page, and all they need to do is click the big red "Support Now" button to either purchase a $25 eCertificate (HRHS Track gets $10) or Shop Online to order from Schwan's (HRHS Track gets 20%).

If you want to support HRHS Track:
  • Click here and scroll through the names of our Fundraisers to find an athlete or parent you want to support, then click on that person's name
  • Click the red "Support Now" button on the right side of the individual's page. If you clicked "Support Now" on Macy's page, this is the screen you would see next.
  • Click "Buy Now" to purchase a $25 eCertificate that you use like a gift certificate. HRHS Track gets $10 (40%) of your purchase.
  • Click "Shop Now" to go to Schwan's online store and order items. You can use your eCertificate to pay, and HRHS will get 20% of any amount you spend over the value of your eCertificate
  • You may purchase one eCertificate per email address, so if you want to buy more than one, just enter a different email address for each eCertificate purchase.
  • You DO NOT have to become a regular route customer for Schwan's. Just tell your driver you want to be a "will call" customer when he or she delivers your order OR adjust your online account settings for delivery only when you order.

Mustang Invite Results and Photos

Thursday's snow canceled our JVmeet this week, but we had sun and warmer weather for most of Saturday's Mustang Invite.

Many of our athletes set new PR's on Saturday, and despite the stricter enforcement of rules about who can be on the infield and where those people can take pictures, we got some good photos of the meet. Click here for complete results and click here for photos. Also, scroll to the bottom to see which HR athletes got into video on this weeks 9 News Prep Rally. The track coverage comes right after the lacrosse coverage. Click here if the video does not appear below.

Looking Ahead

We have only 3 weekend meets before our HRHS Memorial Invitational on May 3. We need all hands on deck (and all feet on the track) to live up to the great reputation our meet has garnered among coaches and athletes since we started it in 2011. Click here to see all the different ways you can help.

We have an immediate need for one more Concessions Manager to volunteer for half the day on May 3 and to attend a mandatory one hour district training next Saturday, April 12 @ 8am at Sports Authority Stadium. Will you help?

Friday, April 4, 2014

Parents! We Need You!!

We have opportunities for parents to help with upcoming Team Dinners and to get close to the action (or stay in the shade!) at our May 3 HRHS Memorial Invite. Team Dinners are a great opportunity to meet athletes and other parents, and our May 3 HRHS Memorial meet has developed a reputation as one of the best meets in the area because of the involvement of our parents.  You make it happen! No experience needed. All you need is a smile and a willingness to create a great experience for our kids!

Help at our May 3 HRHS Memorial Meet

Click here to sign up for a job you'll love or email Lori Roby with questions. We have an urgent need for a second Concessions Manager to work with Mandi Bauer who has already volunteered.

There is a mandatory one hour training conducted by the district for this role on April 12 @ 8am @ Sports Authority Stadium. The two managers split the day and each take a shift so it's easy to move in and out to see your athlete compete. On a hot, sunny day, the shade is a big plus!

Please say yes!  Without two managers, the district will not allow us to run concessions at our meet. Mandi would love to answer any questions you may have! Click here to contact her.

Help with Team Dinners

We have three more Team Dinners scheduled for this season. Click on the link below to see how you can help by providing food or drinks on each of those three dates:

April 3 JV Meet Canceled

The view outside looks more like January than April today. Our JV meet for today has been canceled.

To remind you of better days and give you hope for the rest of the season, check out our story and pictures from Spring Break in Texas, where the sun was shining and the temperatures were over 80.

When the snow melts and the sun shines, we'll be running, hurdling, jumping and throwing outside again. But for today, we'll be working out inside after school and hoping for Spring.

Texas Results and Photos

For the past several years, HRHS Track has taken a group of varsity athletes to a national-level meet over Spring Break. It's a great chance for our athletes to see and participate in high-level competition....and it's always warmer than home!

This year, our team qualified two individual athletes and six relay teams for the 2014 Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays, one of the most prestigious outdoor track and field competitions in the United States. Trevor Rex competed in Boys High Jump and placed 7th. Connor Turnage competed in Boys Long Jump and Boys Triple Jump, placing 4th in the triple jump. HRHS's qualifying relays included: Boys and Girls 4x100, Boys and Girls 4x200, Girls 1600 meter medley (placed 12th), and Girls 4x400. Congratulations to our athletes who competed in the Texas Relays! Click here for Texas Relays results.

On the same weekend, some of our athletes also competed in a Texas high school meet, the South Austin Relays. Several athletes set new PR's, some by HUGE margins, and it was a great opportunity for all our athletes to see good competition in great weather. Click here for South Austin Relays results.

In a weekend packed with two track meets, there was still time for fun. Our team went swimming in the cool waters of Barton Springs and enjoyed an evening of bowling, laser tag, rock climbing, billiards, and video games at Main Event the afternoon and evening before returning home.

Our camera could only be in  one place at one time so our photos are from the Texas Relays. Click here to see them. Athletes are also invited to add their photos to our online album, and some already have. If you have photos you'd like to share from our 2014 Spring Break trip to Texas, email us.

If you think you might be interested in coming on a Spring Break trip in the future, now is a great time to start fundraising. This year's trip cost was $550, and several of our athletes funded all or most of their trip costs through King Soopers cards. Click here to learn more about how the cards work, and email HRHS Track if you would like to get started on fundraising for future trips.
